CORNEAL ULCERS IN BENIN CITY, NIGERIA

Corneal Ulceration is a very important cause of blindness in developing countries. The aetiology, predisposing factors and complications of corneal ulcers in 110 eyes of 99 patients seen at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Nigeria between January 1990 and December 1998 were studied. There were 65 males and 34 females. The age range of the patients was 2years to 75years with a mean age of 34.2years.Students were the most common group affected followed by farmers.

EYE CARE OUTREACH TO RURAL UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS IN EDO AND DELTA STATES OF NIGERIA

An eye care outreach programme to rural communities in Edo and Delta State of Nigeria was carried out in September 2001. The programme was aimed at taking eye care to the doorsteps of the less privileged rural dwellers as part of the preparatory activities for an annual congress. A total of 944 patients were screened and treated.
