History

After many years of persistent struggle for the creation of the Faculty of Management Sciences which started in 1983, the Senate at its 195 regular meeting held on Wednesday,August   30^th ,2006,considered and approved the splitting of Faculty of Social Sciences into two Faculties: Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Management Sciences with effect from 2006/2007 session.

The Faculty of Management Sciences, therefore , came into existence on October 1st,2006 with the following departments:

• Accounting
• Banking and Finance
• Business Administration.

The Department of Business Administration emerged from the Department of Economics and Statistics in 1977. Department of Economics and Statistics , and therefore emerged from that department into full fledged department in 2006/2007 session.

Objectives

The aim of the faculty is to produce professionally trained management scientists in various fields and bring such training to bear in whatever roles they may be called upon to play in line with their areas of specialization in the course of national development . It is expected that the honors degree programmes available in the faculty will cater for the academic interests diverse students with the intention of preparing them for the job challenges later in future as well as prepare them to set up business . These students upon graduation are expected to fit varieties of into job situations in the areas of teaching , research , management , entrepreneurship development an other professional work in both private and public sectors.  There will be a strong emphasis on entrepreneurial development to encourage self-reliance.
